👀 What is a rally raid?
The rally raid is an off-road endurance competition, where drivers cover long and varied stages each day (often between 300 and 600 km).
The goal is not only to go fast, but to navigate with precision, manage fatigue, and go the distance.
Legendary events such as the Dakar Rally and the Africa Eco Race perfectly symbolize this spirit: traversing spectacular landscapes, from deserts to rocky trails, in complete autonomy.
🗺️ Roadbook Navigation: The Heart of Rallying
In a rally raid, navigation is done using a road book: a roll of paper indicating directions, distances, and hazards using standardized symbols.
The driver must follow these instructions while keeping their concentration on the track.
This “old-fashioned” navigation, without GPS, is what makes rallying so beautiful and difficult: you don’t follow a track, you find your own way.

Thanks to adapted formulas, there are now two accessible categories:
Raid / Adventure category: no time limit, supervised, ideal for discovering the format in complete safety.
Racing category: for those who want to compete against the clock, with full road book navigation and rankings.
🌍 The Raid: the adventure format
The raid is a non-competitive off-road motorcycle adventure format.
You ride at your own pace, following a GPX track on your GPS.
No timing, no pressure: just the pleasure of discovering new horizons on your Ténéré 700.

GPX raids combine freedom, exploration, and accessibility: no prior rally-raid experience is required, and some even offer roadbook navigation, providing a perfect introduction to on-field navigation.
🎯 Training & Courses
Before hitting the trails, it’s time to prepare and ensure your safety. Ténéré Centers are official Yamaha centers dedicated to off-road training.
They welcome riders of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced riders, in a supervised and supportive environment.
Goal: progress safely while enjoying the ride
Each center offers different programs:
Off-road initiation: learn the basics of off-road riding, including posture, balance, and traction control.
Roadbook navigation introduction: understand rally logic before venturing out.
Adventure courses: multi-day practical experiences to master fatigue management, navigation, and autonomy.
Desert experience: at the Ténéré Center Merzouga (Morocco), learn sand riding techniques while exploring the desert’s iconic landscapes.
Safety, skill development, and fun are the core principles of Ténéré Center courses.
