FAQ
What is the Yamaha Ténéré Rally Team?
The Yamaha Ténéré Rally Team is the official Yamaha rally team.
We support elite riders in competition, while opening our structure to passionate amateurs thanks to the Ténéré Spirit Experience, thus offering them the opportunity to experience a rally from the inside, with complete professional supervision.
GENERAL INFORMATIONS
Anyone can participate in a rally-raid with the Yamaha Ténéré Rally Team, provided they meet a few simple criteria: you must be of legal age and have a valid driver’s license.
No need to be a professional driver or have prior rally experience!
If you’re just starting out, the Raid category is ideal: it’s designed for those looking for an experience focused on adventure and discovery rather than pure competition.
For Yamaha Ténéré 700 owners, this is obviously the perfect opportunity. And if you don’t have one, you can also rent one from our team. Our goal is to make this experience accessible to all adventure enthusiasts!
It all depends on your objectives and your level of experience:
Racing category: If you’re looking for a competitive and technical experience, the Racing category is for you. You’ll be navigating exclusively by roadbook, which demands precision and mastery. It’s an intense adventure, ideal for those who want to measure themselves against the classic challenges of rally-raid.
Raid category: If you’re more interested in discovery and adventure, the Raid category is perfect. Designed for amateurs who want to explore the world of rally-raid without the pressure of the clock, it offers a freer and more accessible experience. You can ride at your own pace and fully enjoy the scenery. For navigation, you can choose between GPX tracks or roadbook, depending on your preferences and level. Whichever category you choose, the goal is to experience a unique adventure tailored to your desires and skills.
You have the option to participate with your own Ténéré 700 or rent a bike directly from our team. Here are the models available for rent:
TÉNÉRÉ 700 GYTR
This model is equipped with GYTR kits, optimizing its performance, handling, and rally capabilities. A true competition motorcycle with a more powerful engine and an optimized chassis to deliver genuine rally aptitude.
Other models available:
- Ténéré World Raid
- Ténéré Standard
For the Africa Eco Race, all motorcycles are equipped with additional fuel tanks, ensuring the minimum range required by the organization.
You have the choice: handle the maintenance and preparation of your motorcycle yourself, or opt for the assistance of our expert team.

PREPARATION AND EQUIPMENT
Participating in a rally-raid, whether in the Raid or Racing category, requires preparation. It’s therefore recommended to be in good physical condition to maximize your chances of succeeding in this adventure and enjoying it fully.
If you want to train to improve your riding skills, which is actually recommended, you can do so at one of the Ténéré Centers (see the list of approved centers here).
To learn roadbook navigation, you can take a course at the Ténéré Centers in Aveyron and in Morocco.
When you register, the team guides you in preparing for your rally, particularly for the “rider to-do list” suitcase. If you’re coming with your motorcycle, you’ll receive expert advice on how to equip it.
To participate in a rally-raid, you’ll need appropriate navigation equipment.
- Navigation with GPX tracks:
If you choose the Raid category and opt for navigation with GPX tracks, you’ll use a GPS to navigate. - Roadbook navigation:
For roadbook navigation, whether in the Raid or Racing category, you’ll use a roadbook holder as well as a tripmaster.
Our team will, before the rally, equip your motorcycle with all the necessary navigation equipment.
You’ll also be equipped with the safety equipment required by the rally organization, such as a geolocation system. This will allow you to quickly contact the organization in case of a medical or technical problem.
