After a first participation last year in the Carta Rallye with our riders and our Yamaha Ténéré 700, we are back for the 10th edition.
The objective, as always, goes beyond performance: it is primarily about training, for improvements, both for our Ténéré 700 and for our riders.

The Carta Rallye is the ideal amateur rally-raid, both in terms of navigation challenge with a roadbook, and its unique course. Each year, the level of competition rises, making the challenge more interesting to compete against great riders and teams, a perfect playground to test the Yamaha Ténéré 700 in real competition conditions.

The Carta Rallye consists of 7 stages. This year, the race starts from Agadir, from Plage Blanche, with a stage in the dunes of Erg Cheggaga, to finish in Mhamid. Approximately 2,300 km for this edition, across the most demanding Moroccan tracks.

Our riders in the racing category with the Ténéré 700

This year, we will participate with 3 great riders in our team. All will start on the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally, the most advanced version of the Ténéré 700 for competition, equipped with GYTR (Yamaha Genuine Technology Racing) parts developed directly in rally-raid.

Our 2 official Yamaha Racing riders: Italian rider Alessandro Botturi and French rider Gautier Paulin, as well as our German (TSE) rider Kevin Gallas, winner of the Africa Eco Race 2026.

Last year, the Carta Rallye was Kevin Gallas’s first rally-raid. After only three rally-raids, including two overall victories in the Addax Rally and the Africa Eco Race, Kevin is already establishing himself as a serious contender, capable of competing with our official riders on the Ténéré 700 Rally.

Two other riders in the Racing category will join our official riders. Morgan Bernoux, also known as Captain Morgaine, after a first experience in the Africa Eco Race in the Raid category, is embarking on a year of challenges. At the Carta Rallye, he takes on the challenge of the Racing category on the Yamaha Ténéré 700, as part of his preparation for the Africa Eco Race in racing.

Finally, Alix Guenier joins our riders in the Racing category for a first African rally with our team, also on a Ténéré 700 GYTR.

The adventure within the Carta Rallye in the Raid category

This year, we’re heading for adventure with the Raid category. 7 riders will be part of the adventure on the Yamaha Ténéré 700 WR, with the goal of benefiting from our assistance package to fully enjoy a raid in Morocco with roadbook navigation.

The Raiders ride the Yamaha Ténéré 700 WR, equipped with a GYTR comfort kit including GYTR fork and shock absorber, GYTR rims, all fitted with bib mousses and a Twin Air pre-filter; a reliable and proven setup to tackle the Moroccan tracks with confidence.

Our assistance package allows each rider to set off with peace of mind: qualified mechanics, spare parts, preparation of the Ténéré 700s between stages and personalized support throughout the rally. An ideal formula to discover rally-raid with complete serenity.

We have therefore opened a Ténéré Center in Bouzigues, which allows off-road rides in Hérault.

The goal? To get together for a day to ride together, in an organized, safe environment suitable for everyone.

The spirit of a Ténéré Camp, in Morocco

A raid for Ténéré 700 riders, and more broadly for any type of Ténéré. 4 days of riding, with 3 categories, so everyone can ride at their own pace and find enough challenge to improve.

GPX category: a category with a GPX track, mostly off-road, ideal for discovering the Moroccan desert without too much complexity.

Roadbook Discovery category : ideal for discovering roadbook navigation. You navigate using the roadbook and have the option of using GPS for support. You are free to check it, but it’s there if you’re ever in doubt.

Roadbook Challenge category : roadbook navigation only, featuring classic desert challenges. Wadis, fesh-fesh, some dunes… and optional, more challenging sections.

A raid with Yamaha riders?

All accompanied by our riders and ambassadors to keep you well supported and advised: Gautier Paulin, Alessandro Botturi, Kevin Gallas, Jordi Arcarons… and maybe some surprise guests.

A goal for this Ténéré raid? Win the mini-challenges to be on your category’s podium at the end. No speed on this raid, but consistency, with challenges that will put your skills to the test.

A comfortable raid at Xaluca

A fully comfortable raid, because our bivouac base will be at Xaluca, a hotel in Erfoud, where you can unwind after a day of riding: pool, sauna, massage, or even a gym for those who still have energy.

Our advice for this raid?

If you wish to participate with your own Ténéré, an equipment list will be provided after you register. The goal is to ensure you are in the best possible conditions to participate.

For example, for the Roadbook Challenge category: you must of course have a tablet or a roadbook reader so you can read the roadbook.

As for tires, we recommend mousse bibs + medium enduro tires, or heavy-duty inner tubes with tires suited to the desert.

A pre-filter to protect the engine from sand…

Intense is the word to describe these two weeks of competition in the Africa Eco Race. Two weeks where the suspense was absolute until the final release.

The Africa Eco Race 2026 got off to a great start with a victory for Alessandro Botturi and a third-place finish for Kevin Gallas as early as the second stage (Stage 1 having been cancelled). This sets the tone: our Ténéré 700 riders are right in the mix, even against the many 450cc bikes entered this year.

The turning point of the race for Yamaha...

Kevin Gallas finished second on Stage 3, but on Stage 4, a technical problem struck Alessandro Botturi. He lost an hour, which dashed his chances of victory… However, all is not lost! Thanks to a true team strategy, Alessandro Botturi will do everything he can to support our young riders.

Kevin Gallas, consistent in his performance, won the 5th stage. The 6th stage was won by Gautier Paulin, with Alessandro Botturi taking second place. On the 7th stage, it was another victory for Kevin Gallas. Nothing seems to stop him, not even the dunes of Mauritania, and this is only his 3rd rally-raid!

Then Gautier Paulin won the 8th stage, followed by the 10th… In the overall standings, only 1 min 25 s now separate Gautier Paulin and Kevin Gallas, with a comfortable 22-minute lead over third place, held by Lepan’s KTM 450.

The finale at Lac Rose

In the Africa Eco Race, although there are 12 stages, only 11 count toward the overall standings. It is Stage 11 that seals the winner’s fate, with Stage 12 only serving for the start from the beach of the legendary Lac Rose and the finish at the podium.

A Stage 11 where everyone held their breath… and in the end, Kevin Gallas won with just a 41-second lead over Gautier Paulin!

A historic result for Yamaha

Not only did Yamaha win the Africa Eco Race on the Ténéré 700, but it also took second place on the podium! An incredible performance from our riders and machines.

The team’s success didn’t stop there:
5 Ténérés in the top 7 overall.
A clean sweep of the podium in the Over 650cc category: Kevin Gallas, Gautier Paulin, and Mike Wiedemann.

The Ténéré Spirit Experience riders, Mike Wiedemann and António Maio, delivered solid performances. Wiedemann secured three stage podiums to finish 4th overall, while Maio added two podiums and finished 6th.

The dominance of the Ténéré 700

In total, the Ténéré bikes claimed 6 stage wins and added 11 more podium finishes. Stage 10, one of the most demanding of the rally, saw Ténérés take all of the top 5 spots.

Finally, 7 machines finished in the top 9 of the Over 650cc category, including Nicolas Charlier (8th) and Bertrand Gavard (9th).

The Africa Eco Race 2026 will be remembered as an edition dominated by the Ténéré Yamaha Rally Team and its adventure twin-cylinder, victorious in one of the most demanding rally-raids in the world.

Next up: The team will be back in action at the Carta Rallye in Morocco, from April 18 to 24, 2026.

We will once again be present at the start of the Africa Eco Race 2026. A new edition marked by several changes, including a departure from Tangier.

The start changes, but the route remains tough: 6,000 km, 12 stages, and 1 rest day.

This year, we will have no fewer than 15 riders with us for this edition. Among them, we will find our two official riders:

Laurent Cochet at the Africa Eco Race 2026

Also Laurent Cochet (No. 93), back with us for this edition. And no, Laurent isn’t just doing two editions in a row for pleasure… What he’s looking for are new things and challenges.

After discovering the joy of the Ténéré 700 WR GYTR in the desert, he’s embarking on a new challenge: to do the Africa Eco Race with the first turbo Ténéré 700.
 The big question: will he make it to Dakar?
 In any case, it’s a mission we’re ready to take on with him!

Finally, this year, we have very few riders in the Raid category, except for Morgan, also known as Captain Morgan (No. 525). A passionate adventurer who loves motorcycle travel and discovering the world, he is seeking a challenge.

He will participate in the Africa Eco Race in the Raid category, an accessible category for discovering rally-raid, with the choice between roadbook or GPX navigation.
 We are delighted to accompany him on this first adventure.

Africa Eco Race 2026 Program

  • January 23–24 – Tangier : Technical and administrative checks. Vehicles are ready, teams are focused.

  • January 25 – Official Start : The rally starts from Tangier. The journey to Dakar begins.

  • Morocco : Fast tracks, rocky terrain, and the first real sand sections. The race reveals its true character.

  • January 31 – Dakhla: Short break: rest, repairs, and preparation for the most difficult part of the rally.

  • Mauritania: Immense dunes, long specials, and two demanding loops that test navigation, endurance, and mental strength.

  • Senegal : The ultimate effort. Faster tracks, but no room for error. Dakar is now on the horizon.
  • February 7 – Lac Rose, Dakar : The finish line. The moment every competitor fights for.

Kevin Gallas: Rally-Raid or Hard Enduro expert?

Well, apparently, both are compatible!

Kevin was born into a family of enthusiasts. His parents, both his father and mother, were already riding… It’s in his blood. He made his debut in Trial to discover precision and balance, before acquiring his first enduro bike at 18. Just three years later, at 21, he burst onto the international scene by becoming FIM World Champion of SuperEnduro Junior 2018.

But how do you go from pure enduro to the Ténéré?

One name changed everything: Pol Tarrés. He was the one who inspired Kevin. Pol even lent him his training Ténéré and paid his registration so he could participate in the Romaniacs.

💡 What is the Red Bull Romaniacs?
The Red Bull Romaniacs is widely considered the most difficult extreme enduro race in the world. Created in 2004, it takes place annually around Sibiu, Romania. The event spans five days: it begins with a spectacular urban prologue featuring artificial obstacles (tires, logs, metal structures), followed by four days of racing in the wild mountains.

Riders navigate by GPS through nearly impassable vertical slopes, dense forests, and rivers.

The race offers several categories (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron, Atom and, more recently, Adventure, where it’s possible to compete with a Ténéré).

In 2023, Kevin participated in the Romaniacs in the Bronze category. A year later, in 2024, he made his mark and won the Bronze category on his Ténéré 700 GYTR.

In 2025, he was found at the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, another Hard Enduro legend. On the Rocket Ride, a hellish climb where 300 riders line up, Kevin Gallas delivered a solid performance and finished in 3rd place WITH A Ténéré 700 GYTR.

Discovering Rally-Raid on the Ténéré 700 World Raid GYTR

2025 marks a significant shift towards Rally-Raid for Kevin Gallas, with the Carta Rallye. For his first rally on the Ténéré 700 World Raid GYTR, he finished in an impressive 4th place. A remarkable performance for such a technical discipline where nothing is left to chance. In 7 days and 2,000 km of racing, he proved his mastery of roadbook navigation, even winning the second stage.

Building on this momentum, he participated in the Addax Rally in November. In a shorter 5-day format, Kevin went all out: he won the third stage and, most importantly, secured the overall victory!

Next up: the Africa Eco Race 2026! The German rider is taking on one of the monuments of Rally-Raid. Two weeks of racing, 6,000 km, and one single goal: reach Dakar on a Ténéré 700 Rally! He will proudly wear number 171.

  • choosing between GPX or roadbook navigation,
  • and joining Stéphane Peterhansel for the last few days in Mauritania to ride alongside him.

2026 will see the first edition of the Desert Tour, a raid dedicated to Yamaha Ténéré in Morocco.

Its particularity: a raid designed around the rally experience, with the aim of discovering roadbook navigation .

Three categories are available:

  • GPX Adventure
  • Roadbook Discovery
  • Roadbook Challenge

Challenges are organized in each category for this regularity raid, allowing the top three in each category to win prizes.

Andréa Peterhansel's essential tips for safe desert riding

Magnificent, mysterious and bewitching, the desert hides many dangers for the driver. To guide you, Andréa Peterhansel, experienced off-road rally driver and great connoisseur of desert races, shares her invaluable advice.

General advice

  • On unfamiliar trails, moderate your speed to limit the risks associated with excessive speed.

  • Remain constantly vigilant for holes, wadis and invisible obstacles.

  • Small broken dunes can cause unexpected falls: keep your eyes open.

  • If visibility is reduced by dust, slow down to better anticipate obstacles and limit risks.

  • Respect the distances between motorcyclists to avoid collisions in the event of a sudden stop.

Dehydration and heat

  • Drink regularly, even if you’re not thirsty, to avoid dehydration.

  • A Camelbak is ideal for hydrating without stopping.

  • Avoid breaks in direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day to reduce the risk of heatstroke.

Fauna and flora

  • Keep an eye on your tires when camel grass is present, as its rigidity can be dangerous.

  • Avoid thorns to prevent punctures.

  • During breaks, keep your helmet and gloves off the ground to avoid being bitten by scorpions or snakes.

Navigation and orientation

  • For safe navigation, stay with the guide and respect the prescribed distances.

  • If you lose sight of the group, stay put and wait for instructions to facilitate the reunion.

Maintenance and repairs

  • Be prepared for punctures and falls, and adapt your speed to the terrain.

  • In an emergency, stay calm, wait for the next guide and provide first aid if necessary.

💡 Additional tip:
Remember to pack full equipment (goggles, gloves, protection, GPS) and manage your energy: regular breaks, diet and sleep are essential to enjoy the desert safely.

Riding in the desert for the first time

Discovering the desert by motorcycle for the first time is an unforgettable experience… but it’s best to be well accompanied. There are several options open to you:

  • Training at the Ténéré Center in Morocco: here you can rent a motorcycle and benefit from the advice of an experienced guide like Jordi Arcarons. An ideal way to get started in the best possible conditions.

  • Take part in a guided raid: on our adventures, a guide is always on hand to accompany the raiders, teach the necessary techniques and ensure everyone’s safety. It’s a great way to discover the desert with confidence.

Whatever you choose, the most important thing is to ride safely while enjoying the scenery and the adventure.

WHAT IS THE RAID?

It’s a motorcycleadventure format, with no stopwatch and no rankings, but not without its challenges! Quite the contrary: the main challenge of this raid will be navigation using the road-book.
Until now, our raids have used GPX tracks. Next year, you’ll be able to choose between GPX or road-book. Ideal for putting yourself in the shoes of the Dakar drivers and challenging yourself by deciphering the boxes as the kilometers go by.

Each year, as the Yamaha Ténéré Rally Team, we take part in various rally-raids and open our structure to adventurers: in other words, anyone can join us and take part.
To suit all levels, each rally-raid offers several categories:
– Raid category no-pressure adventure format.
– Racing category for classification and competition.

We left for Morocco at the beginning of November to take part in the Addax Rally, a 1700 km rally-raid in 5 stages. A “small” rally that is ideal for training for the Africa Eco Race.

The Addax Rally is a rally raid with a cloverleaf format, meaning that the bivouac remains fixed throughout the event.

Five riders joined us for this rally raid:

  • Alessandro Botturi, our official rider.

  • Antonio Maio, iconic Portuguese rider with several Dakar rallies under his belt.

  • Kevin Gallas, a German rider who excels at hard enduro with the Ténéré, and who competed in his first rally raid with us this year: the Carta Rally.

  • Mike Wiedemann, a German rider who has competed in several Dakar rallies and who discovered rally raiding in Morocco on a Ténéré 700 as part of our team.

  • Bertrand Gavard, who has two Dakar rallies under his belt, participated in the Carta Rally alongside us and is preparing for the Africa Eco Race.

STAGE 1

The first day of the Addax Rally featured a 54.8 km prologue, mostly in the dunes, followed by a first special stage of 149 km. On the program: small dunes, rocky tracks, challenging navigation to Begaa and Erg Znagui, before returning to the Merzouga camp.

It is the Portuguese Antonio Maio., invited to join the Ténéré Yamaha Rally Team on the official bike, who finished the day at the top of the overall standings. The multiple Portuguese champion and Dakar finisher impressed in his first desert rally raid on the Ténéré 700 Rally: third in the prologue and then winner of the first special stage in 2 hours 10 minutes 31 seconds, he took the overall lead with a 2 minute 56 second advantage.

STAGE 2

The second stage, the longest of the rally at 388.92 km, put the drivers’ nerves to the test. From Merzouga, they crossed the fast tracks of Taouz, the dry riverbeds of Jdeid, and the sands of Ramlia, where navigation once again made all the difference.

Botturi had posted the fastest time in Stage 1, but a 15-minute penalty for missing a waypoint dropped him to fifth in the stage and fourth overall. Disappointed but determined, the 50-year-old Italian responded perfectly by winning Stage 2 with a time of 5 hours, 41 minutes, and 26 seconds, more than two minutes ahead of his closest rival. This moved him up to second place overall, just 3 minutes and 21 seconds behind the leader.

For Maioafter the joy of victory in the first special stage, Stage 2 proved more complicated: a heavy fall 50 km from the finish line. He managed to get back on his bike and finished sixth, but after undergoing checks at the hospital, he and the team decided to return to Portugal for further tests.

STAGE 3

The third stage is a real navigation challenge: 370 km between Erfoud and Rissani, then dry riverbeds, loose stones, and rough tracks towards Jorf.
Botturi continues his comeback despite his penalty on the first day and finishes second in 5 hours 27 minutes 02 seconds, just 46 seconds behind the winner.

The winner is none other than Kevin Gallas, Ténéré Spirit Experience (TSE) rider. The German, who has already participated in several events with TSE, once again confirmed his potential in rally raids by winning the special stage in 5 hours, 26 minutes, and 16 seconds. The Ténéré thus maintains a perfect record: three wins in three stages.

STAGE 4

This fourth special stage, covering 373 km, takes drivers through the endless dunes of the Sahara, with fesh-fesh, wadis, and technical tracks heading towards Ouzina and then Ramlia. Without any visual landmarks, navigation is extremely complex and many drivers get caught out.

At this point in the rally, the race had become a duel between Botturi and Gallas.. The German leads by 4 min 04 s, and the two men are more than 44 minutes ahead of the third-placed rider.

STAGE 5

For this final 283 km special stage, the final duel promises to be epic. Botturi, in partnership with Riders for Health (Two Wheels for Life), and Gallas (TSE) will battle it out between Merzouga and Merzane, across dunes, wadis, and dusty tracks. Only 1 min 05 s separate the two men in the overall standings, and their lead over the next rider is 50 minutes.

Botturi opens the track and sets a fast pace. Gallas starts three minutes behind, aiming to catch up with him and stay with him to secure his victory.

But the outcome of the duel came sooner than expected: a technical problem with Botturi’s bike forced him to stop at the refueling station. As the race was primarily a test for the team, he preferred not to take any risks and was forced to retire.

Gallas finished the special stage alongside Mike Wiedemann, who won Stage 5. Kevin Gallas clinched overall victory, an achievement made all the more impressive by the fact that this was only his second rally raid.

What a week! A superb challenge and excellent training for our next goal: ’Africa Eco Race.

The Ténéré Yamaha Rally Team is now turning its attention to the highlight of its season: the 2026 Africa Eco Race, from January 24 to February 7, covering more than 6,000 km between Tangier and Dakar, following in the footsteps of the original Dakar Rally, the ultimate test for man and machine.
